Keyless Entry Distance
No, take a coin or other small flat object (swiss army knife, for example) and insert it on the side of your key near the end where the metal key attaches to the plastic shell you will see a small flat hole. Pop the two pieces of the key apart and you will see where the battery installs inside. You do not have to take the key to the dealer. They would probably charge you $45 or some other ridiculous amount to do it anyway! It is a standard watch battery.

It's likely that the keys are mass produced (looks just like my 06 Dodge Key) and they are pulled from a pile, then coded to a vehicle.
Kinda like the battery in a mother board of a computer. When I buy a motherboard, I throw the batery away first and but a brand new one in. They sit in warehouses until shipped to the retailer.

The batteries in your remote are covered under warranty. The rule is if the remote does not work at 20' or farther away then they will replace the battery. The battery from the dealer is about 10 bucks.
Very true the dealer will replace the battery. My personaly, I would rather pay the $10 at Lowes rather then spend time at the dealership.
