Leaking rear axle seal - 13 JKU 10k miles- common issue??
Have ~54k miles on my '11 and saw evidence of the beginning of leakage on the right rear when I replaced my brakes a few months ago. Fluid level OK so will take it in next month for that, oil change, and annual safety inspection (VA).
I went ahead and took her in for service as stated above. They ended up replacing not only the passenger side bearing and seal but the pinion seal as well! Service Rep, (whom I trust) told me their best Jeep guy saw some weeping at the pinion seal when he was replacing the passenger side so he went ahead and replaced it - all under the 5-year power train warranty. Keeping and eye on things for a while, just in case.
Okay, so after having a bunch of electrical issues with my stalks on the steering column on friday, saturday i found that i am leaking differential fluid out of the front passenger axle shaft seal. i took it to the dealership today (monday, the soonest they'd look at it) and the first dealership was a jerk old man and he only said "you are lifted so the warranty on axle bearing seals is no good, bye. that was it. i just left then and there to go to another dealer 15 miles away. this time the service was decent although he had no idea of what he was talking about, however he at least got the process going for me. then, while we were talking, some of the techs got into my jeep (almost straight piped ) and just sat there revving to the red line in the dealership while the rep and i stared at each other. i have no idea what the status is on the bearing seals or computer but he didn't sound like it was warrantyable, but it better be. if not, im going to be going through a lot of fluid (long arms aint cheap)
15' 2 door rubi 6sp 2.5 teraflex shortarm (4" RC long arm in a ups truck somewhere) 35's, bumpers, custom cage in the works, cold air, (just about)
straight piped and too many small mods to list. by the way i have 12k miles, i dont think its a year old.
update 3/30/16 long arms done -super sick- electrical issues -again this dealership said "we do not believe it is our equipment that has failed" wtf does that even mean man? "we are going to need funds to further diagnose the problem" the hell you will. he suggested that i spliced my aux lights into "factory wiring" uhhhh no bud those are only connected to the battery and are totally seperate, and "that caused the computer failure". then i explained the setup and hes all like "ill check again" like yeah you will or ima open up a can of whoop ass
so done with dealerships. do not recommend extended warranty because they dont honor it.

My 2007 is at the dealer, as I type, getting both rear axle seals replaced. $1100!!!! Ugggggg. Last Sat the back drivers brake locked up due to build up from the leak. I went ahead and had all 4 brakes changed (I already had the brakes), 1 new caliper, 2 new rotors and a tow. I’m $1500 into this fix now.
