Default Leaky Freedom Top...

I know you've probably all read about this before, but I need some more input. I recently purchased a 2 door Rubicon with freedom top. Love the new design and everything about the new Jeep as I have owned 4 TJ's since 97'.

The problem is, I knew about the leaky roof before the purchase, but thought it would have probably already been fixed at the factory since it was born in Jan 07. The leak was there unfortunately. Right in the center over the radio as many have mentioned before. I took it to the dealer and they replaced the seals (Supposedly) according to the TSB. Now, when I approach and go beyond 30 MPH, it sounds like I'm at the Thiokol Rocket testing facility. Meaning, the wind noise is now unbearable. I can also feel the wind blowing inside the vehicle. Not only did the TSB fix at the dealer make the problem worse, but the dealer also trashed my Jeep. They chipped and scratched the paint over the windshield and left a nice goopy tarry mess all over the inside and outside of the vehicle. The panels are also crooked (Not Lined Up At The Center).

Anyone else been through this? Any way to remedy the wind and leaks on my own?

Thanx!!!

bitch about the paint chip for sure, and line up the panels right...that shud fix the noise etc...although i havent done it yet myself, apparently (through bad design i think) the panels arent something that fit in only ONE position...so maybe making them right on the outside will fix the prob

There was a post at this site about 3 weeks ago by a guy who made 2 small slits with a razor knofe in the rubber and "snaked" a piece of weatherstrip through the opening in the factory weatherstrip to "beef" it up. I have had leak problems since day one, have gotten no satisfaction from dealer (even with TSB in hand) and after reading this post I doubt I will let the dealer try anything until I try cutting and "beefing up" the weatherstrip myself. I'll look for the post and try pasting a link for you.

Here is a good place to start, although not the site I was trying to find for you.

Thanks for the reply. And, If I may suggest, DO NOT and I repeat Do Not go to your dealer if at all possible for the TSB on the freedom top unless you absolutely trust them and can be assured that the problem will be fixed. I have bought four Wranglers from the same dealer with no problems until now. I think that the damage they have caused my new vehicle warrants a replacement vehicle. I guess we'll see how it goes... Thanks agian for the link. I was able to see a few more do-it-yourself fix options. Unfortunately, I will have to get my JK to the body shop for a paint job first.

Found it . . . again. Here it is (although his final fix did not work for me).
