Default Lifetime warranty at closing

When I bought my Jeep at closing they offered a lifetime warranty.

What are your thoughts on that?

Does it still count if you mod you vehicle?

Is it worth it?

I have an 09 JKU that came with lifetime powertrain and I bought the Maxcare lifetime bumper to bumper coverage.
I have the TF leveling kit, quick discos, 33" BFG ATs, Bilstein 5100s, etc
As this is typed I'm getting the leaky steering box repaired under warranty (previously had the EGR valve also covered under warranty). I think if your dealer is reasonable and doesn't blame the mods, it's worth it.

Is the warranty sold by the dealer only good at that dealer? Because it really matters how mod friendly the service floor you use is. If you read around the forum, you will find many threads about warranties not being honored when a lift was added.

Some even get the run around when their Jeep is stock because they took it offroad.

I would definately be reading the fine print, especially since the warranty is probably from a third party. And try to find out the reputation of the dealer you will take the warranty work to.

Speaking for mine, it's a Chrysler warranty that is good at any dealer. My two claims were actually both completed without any hassle at 2 different locations (due to where I was at the time of the needed service repair)

I think they wanted something like 1500.00 bucks.

Honestly that sounds pretty reasonable if mods are OK

Mine was 1,200 in 2009, so $1,500 isn't unreasonable, but keep in mind there is negotiating room in those warranties too!

If you dig around the forum you can find WOL's account of his warranty issues. They are pretty good indicator of what to expect. My Jeep came with the lifetime power-train through Chrysler. The bottom line is you can modify your Jeep within reason. If you put any mods on that Chrysler, or the dealership in your case, thinks will hurt the parts you have warrantied they won't want to cover them. For instance a 6 inch lift and 38 inch tires puts more strain on your engine and transmission and if they fail it's your fault and they are not covered.

So the consensus is worth it or not?

If your not sure you can always ask your service department manager if they will over you if you put a lift on it. Some places will be nice and say yes, others will say flat out no.

I'm of the opinion that all extended warrantees are ripoffs.
