How do you tell if a diff. is limited slip or not??

This is what is on the deff. DANA 2007773 P4L836

I heard you can tell if it is limited slip or not by lifting the axle off the ground and spin one tire by hand, if the tires spin in different directions it's a open diff. Spin in the same direction, limited slip. if your in park or e-brake on for stick model, and you have a limited slip, i don't think you would spin the tires at all without some force to overcome the clutches in diff.

Thanks, I was aware of that method on a vehicle, but I was looking at one out of the housing. I found that it must have a clutch pack with springs. The one I was looking at did not have the necessary guts to make it a limited slip. But after doing some off roading with the factory traction control I found that I do not need a limited slip as the traction control worked better than any limited slip I had ever had in previous jeeps. Sure if I want to do the serious off roading and rock crawling like some do I would need lockers etc but for my use the factory traction control is great. Again thanks, Paul.
