Default Limited Slip Question

I have finally found the Jeep with all of the things that I want for the price I want.

Only it's missing the LSD.

I'm in GA and will not be doing any aggressive 4 wheeling (at least until it gets all scratched up).

Is it that important?

Do I need to kill my deal over it?

if thats the only thing missing that you want, i would say go ahead and get it. you said no serious off-road for now anyways, later if you do some serious off-roading, almost tells me your gonna lift it put bigger tires on, chances are you'll wanna regear and while your in there you can put lockers in. Just my opinion.

I would rather have a locker any day than a LSD.

Yep, they are okay. But far from a locked axle. Buy it!

I am assuming you are not buying a Rubi? If not, I have been running open diffs for 3 years, no issues for light wheeling, and only a few with moderate wheeling, you just have to pay more attention to terrain.

Skip the limited diff if the rest is perfect and add lockers later if you want to really wheel tough trials.

I am surprised no one mentioned it has "brake lock differential", assuming it is a JK you are looking at.
That falls between the limited slip and a locker, as far as effectiveness.

It's pretty darned effective, IMHO.

Good point, I've never used the BLD, well that I know of. I'm usually locked on whatever I'm trying. Can't quite speak for it's effectiveness.

Part of the factory traction control that uses the rear brakes to force the open differential to help drive the other wheel when it senses slipping. Apparently works decently, but i understand it needs wheel spin to engage.

Sounds more like the ESP, which you can disable, and is disabled in 4lo by default. The owners manual explains it pretty well.

And this, from a Chrysler engineer is very, very, good:

Oh, it's any driven axle, not just the rear.
