Default limp mode

Ok...so I'm stuck at about 45mph.....it revs high but cannot go faster....I was doing a steady 60 MPH when it just decreased in speed had couldn't go faster than 45mph...engine light came on...only problems I have he'd before this happened was a bad battery...the old battery went bad and I needed several jump starts before getting a new one....so now a buddy suggested I could be in limp mode....does anyone know the procedure to get out of it?..I wanna try it before spending money on anything....

I think you can just pull the battery and let it sit for a few minutes then reconnect it and go. I know it temporarily clears codes on some other vehicles, may work on yours.

If it really is limp mode I would probably not just bypass it and get it looked at. From what I understand it sets off because of transmission problems and limits speed and shifting to protect itself. Someone may have a better explanation. I would think if it was a battery/alternator issue the "battery" light would come on.

I did disconnect it....and it did it again either way....I understand what your saying about it doing it.....I was thinking the Jeep may have had maybe a "hiccup" in the computer system.....so I'm guessing its not so much a procedure to get it out of it....but just a transmission problem either way

Have you considered checking to see what code it threw to make the check engine light come on?

I took it to the dealer (not under wararanty)....they kept it for a week just to tell me that something is wrong internally ....and they would charge about 600 just to drop the transmission....then whatever the parts cost then another couple hundred just to put it all back....so its gonna cost a pretty penny....so I was hoping it would be something else...

I only have 31's on the stock 17" rims....but no I never flashed the ecu....I did put a 2.5" rough country lift with a 1.25 body lift....would that effect the transmission?

check to see if your transmission harness has fallen onto your driveshaft and rubbed thru and shorted something out. This happened to the wife's Jeep.
