Default Location of sending unit

Does anyone know the location of the sending unit for the water temp? I have been wanting to add a gauge and the water temp is next.

This isn't an answer to your question, but...
Keep in mind you can't add a gauge to the factory sending unit (for anyone who might not have known this).

I was planning on putting it on piggyback and not replacing it as I know the computer will most likely not like it.

It is at the bottom of the thermostat housing, where the top hose is connected to the engine.
Piggyback electrically won't work. Piggyback physically won't work.
What I am trying to say is, you don't need to know where the factory sensor is. You need to find a place where your sensor will be exposed to hot water as it leaves the engine. Best bet would be to buy a new thermostat housing and weld in a bung for the after-market sensor.
You could also buy a ScanGauge to get water temp and lots of other functions to boot. (We might have already had this conversation.)

Couple of threads- peeps are getting told or finding out the computer does NOT like it: changes the ohms or summin'.

Find another spot to mount--- OR get a *T* fitting and put both stock and aftermarket in

T fitting won't work, either. The end of the sensor has to be exposed to the flow of hot water.

Thanks for all the information, I guess it's the Scan Gauge II. I have been looking at them but was crossing my fingers I could get a temp gauge without cutting and all that stuff. Guess the seatcovers will have to wait.
Thanks again for all the help..
