Did the same thing with mine - flat black.

Take them off, without a doubt. I actually got new tires from a buddy with a tire shop, so it was even easier. Tires off rims completely.

Ended up coming out great - See avatar pic.

Just remember to paint over the edges of each rim in order to prevent any peeling.

Good luck and we wanna see the end results!

I haven't done it but my friend had his wheels powder coated, a little more expensive but probably a little more durable...just throwing it out there

I actually did mine this weekend. The process is not difficult and in my opinion is was an enjoyable project. I used 300 grit sand paper to scuff them up a little and then used alcohol to remove the dust and any random impurities that may had been on the wheel. I used the rustoleum bed liner, which covered great and was extremely forgiving since I'm not a painting expert. 30 bucks and it have a new look.

Ok I'm considering doing this but have one question. Did you guys paint just the surface of the wheel or did you paint the inside as well? I can't tell from the pics people have posted.

I didn't paint the inside of mine, and honestly I think I would be the only one to be able to tell and that would take sticking my head down by the wheel or under the jeep. If you want to be more thorough however I wouldn't imagine it would take much more effort.
