I assumed I could program a new key with my original key. I guess I'm a bit pissed that I bought a new key got it cut and find out that I need 2 to program it. Damn... What are my options? I got it cut as Ace. They sell auto transponder keys. I'm sure they are going to love that I bought my own key and want them to program it. Can they program it with one key?

Ace will not program internet keys and they will freak out if you ask and pop a little blood vessel in their foreheads screaming about it. I know this from experience.

A locksmith may be able to do it if you bring in the vehicle and the other key.

The dealer can do it, I haven't done it yet, but my dealer said if I brought in a pre-cut internet key they would program it for 39 bucks.

Ace acted like I was asking the impossible. Dumbfounded when I showed them my key I bought. He was almost acting like he wasn't going to do it. I was about to tell him I would just go somewhere else and get it cut but he cut it for about $2.50

I dont know of ANYONE except a dealer who can program the Jeep to accept the new key without two known good keys (the procedure to program is in your users manual) If you dont have two good keys, they actually need to hook up to your Jeep and tell the Jeep's computer to accept the new key. To my knowledge no one but a chrysler dealership has the computer/software to provide the service.

If you already have a key cut, It shouldnt be to much to do it; depending of course on how customer rape-happy your dealership is.

Many people have reported hundreds of dollars to get a new key from the dealer when they have only one, but that also includes a new key from jeep (which i am sure is exorbitantly overpriced to begin with)

Best advice i have is if you only have one now, get TWO made so when you lose the next one you still have two good keys. Good luck, seriously, i hope they dont screw you to badly on it.
