Loud Popping while crawling!
Yesterday I went and did some crawling and it started off not so bed with a slight pop whenever I flexed and turned at the same time, and then as the day went on it got louder and louder. I still have stock wheel bearings and hubs and do not have the money to replace them but it sounds like it might be them? I really do not know where this popping is coming from, but it seems to only be in the front end when in four wheel drive, I replaced both the axle U-joints not too long ago so I dont think its coming from them. if anyone has any idea about this that would be incredibly helpful, because I DIY almost everything now and really cant afford to take it to a shop so they can rip me off to do somethin I can fix in 4 hours, I just need to know what direction to go. Thanks!
What kind of JK do you have? How much were you flexed? Some of the popping could be from the springs stretching. Does your JK have lockers? Were you in 4L? When in 4x4, especially more so in 4L, it makes it hard to take tight turns since the wheels both want to spin at the same speed; sometimes, I've heard some popping noise come when maneuvering tight turns in 4L - could this be the noise you heard?
I have a JK unlimited X 2007. Yes I was in 4L and those all sound like normal popping and judging as to how it got worse, I dont think thats it. No lockers, and it didnt just do it on tight turns and the flexing was not that extreme...some was but the loud pops came from pretty easy flexes and turns. It really hasn't ever popped like that before either. hmmmm........
