Default Loud ticking while idling

I just picked my 09 Wrangler up from the dealer for some service today and I noticed a loud ticking noise, which I'm assuming is the lifters. Is this normal?

I haven't had the car for a couple of days now, but it was the first thing I noticed when I started it up.

I have decided to avoid dealers for as long as possible. Haven’t been in for 2 years and 40,000 miles, but was in and out fixing things when I first got her. And, it is a fact that every time you hand over the keys to anyone, there is a new noise when you get them back. No way to avoid it!

My Jeep makes a distinct ticking noise. I've noticed the same noise on other JKs. It's most noticeable when driving doors off (or, in my case, with tube doors on), especially when near something that can reflect the sound (say a wall). I'm told it's caused by the fuel infection, and that it's perfectly normal.

I was just about to say the same thing.

If it is a manual tranny you could have a bad throw out bearing which is replaceable under warranty. If it is the AT then its is most likely the lifters not having enough oil.

Probably stones stuck in your tire treads.

If it's coming from the engine, it's most likely the piston slap issue. I was told by my dealer that it is affecting literally hundreds of thousands of Jeeps. It's far more reaching than Jeep first had realized. .....at least that's what I was told.
