Default Manual Tranny HELP

My son has an 09 with a maual transmission. When driving any bump sends the shifter moving from side to side. In addition there seems to be more vibration in the shift know than normal. The jeep has a teraflex 2.5" lift with stock size tires (27000 mi). Has anyone else had an issue like this?

Although mine has not had this problem, I have a friend whos does the exact same thing. I always say he should have it checked but he says it doesent bother him...to me it almost feels like its in nuetral when its in gear...no lift on his, I'd take it to the dealer.

It's actually somewhat normal. There's a thread here somewhere about it. Driveline vibrations from big bumps and train tracks make mine shake like crazy but all is well with my transmission.

If there were a cupholder on top of my shifter I wouldn't have a drop to drink after one bump. Four years later I still have no problems from it bobbling like crazy over bumps.

The motor mounts are super soft....

Have someone close a door while you watch the motor and watch it shake lol

My 2008 does it too. After the 4" lift is is better, but before it, I could not leave my hand on the shift knob without it getting whacked a few times.

My JK is auto, but other stickshift trucks I've owned would get new motor mounts when the shifter started acting that way. Maybe this well become the next JK mod?

The shifter goes straight into the transmission, so any movement of the drive train is going to cause it to shake some. Mine does it too. Not as bad as some I have seen, but it does do it.

Wouldn't hurt to check the engine and transmission mounts, make sure they are good and snug (do not over tighten them though!)

You don't ever see this in vehicles with cable shifters (ie: every fwd car).

The shifter is connected directly to the transmission. Because of this the vibrations go right the stick and prevent a easily designed short shifter.
