Default Max trailer weight on an X

I am looking at installing the Mopar hitch and wiring harness. I have a 4 door X, and I need to know what the max I could go on the trailer weight would be. The hitch says 3500# but I just want to make sure before I tear something up. Thanks!

Edit: I am looking at renting a uhaul trailer this weekend and its empty weight is 900 lbs. Would this be ok?

What gearing do you have? This thread is a great reference - from the manual I believe... https://www.jk-forum.com/forums/stock-jk-tech-12/trailering-info-jk-sevice-manual-31646/

I believe if you have the 4dr and 4.10 gears you are good for 3500 (350lb tongue weight).

Depends on the gearing that you have. I found out that mine can only tow 1000 lbs (little bit about that). Find out what gearing yours has and them check the owners manual.

I've pulled 5 to 6,000 lbs of utility trailer loaded with hardwood for several hundred miles with no problems. 08 Unlimited X with Mopar tow package, Auto, Limited Slip and 3.73 stock gears.

It might not've been a problem, but still probably wasn't the best thing to do. Had something happened you'd have probably been up a creek w/o a paddle and held liable for any damages since you were beyond the MFG recommended tow rating. Not worth it in my opinion.

Thanks for the input... I have the 3.21 gears (soon to be upgraded) and I found it in the manual. This forum is better than a manual anyday! Would it still be ok to pull a 900 lbs. trailer when the manual says max weight is 1000 lbs? Of course I probably will be at 1600-1700 when its loaded. Thanks!

I think it'll be tough on your gears, especially starting off from a dead start. Maybe try to park pointing downhill all the time...

You'll be much better off after a gear change.

So with everything said... is it the gears that limit the weight of the trailer? If that is the case then I think i'll be fine seeing since I have the 6-spd (i can handle not going into 6th). Am I reading everything correctly? Or is it something to do with the overall weight of the JK? (i.e. - I don't want the rear frame to bend/rear coils ruined or something of that nature) Thanks again!

Same thing for me, my trailer is about 4500 lbs. If you have at least 3.73 gears, it's Okay.
