Default Measuring 5 on 5 bolt pattern

Where does the 5 on 5 bolt measurement come from. I have tried measuring the bolt pattern a few different ways, but never come up with 5".

What am I missing here? How do you get this measurement?

Thanks

View the article on Wikipedia. It's easier than explaining it.

Simple answer is, for a 4, 6 or 8 bolt wheel you measure center to center of two holes directly across from each other.

The 5 bolt pattern in the odd one?? you measure from the center on one hole to the BACK of the third hole. This is the easiest way to estimate a 5-lug bolt circle.
You can also measure from the CENTER of one hole to the CENTER of the third hole using 1.05 multiplier to find your bolt circle.

This info was found online.

Thanks

Yep, thats the measurement I was coming up with also thats why I was curious how they got the 5" bolt pattern.

isn't it just the diameter of the circle? a 5 lug pattern on a 5 inch circle is a 5 on 5 bolt pattern. 5 bolts on a 5 1/2 inch circle is 5 on 5 1/2 pattern.
