mid-width in Jersey?
Look up your state safety laws... might take a bit of digging, but it's gotta be there...
edit: I looked briefly, and I couldn't find anything. Ignore me, hopefully someone else will know

IMO call your local state police office and talked to them they will know or can look it up for you. I know atleast in VA a trooper is on duty at the police station for the inspection stations in their run area. It might be faster than looking it up.
There are still speed & custom shops in the Newark area that will perform a NJ inspection if you have made modifications to your vehicle. I take my BMW to local tuner's shop since i have dark tinted windows & I took my old lifted & heavily modified CJ's to a similar shop over the years. Drop it off, come back 4 hrs later and you've got a sticker. Last time my Beemer cost $100. No problems.
have 35's, lift, and a mid-width bumper. Never was stopped by a cop for any modifications while driving any of my CJ's 15+ years in NJ.
