Might be a newbie question but...

Default Might be a newbie question but...

I just bought a new 14 JKUR. Love everything about it so far BUT... It seems like it is ALL over to road. It feels just like when you are riding behind a semi all the time - even when I'm the only one on the road. I know it's not aerodynamic as most any other vehicle but I didn't expect this feeling all the time - I can certainly understand if it's windy out but I've got about 800 miles on it and it hasn't felt "stable" at all - constant shimmying side to side.

Is this normal? Any input appreciated! Thanks.

Check the air pressure in your tires - might be over inflated?

Is this your first Jeep Wrangler? Not trying offend, but the thing is a solid axle vehicle. With a somewhat high center of gravity. It's not gonna handle like anything else. It isn't designed to be confidence inspiring on the highway. It's designed to handle well at lower speeds off road. When the other cars get stuck on the curbs, your Rubicon just keeps going. Haha.

I haven't manually checked the tires but the info center shows all 4 at 41psi. I will have to check to see it they match.

No offense taken and yes it's my first wrangler but have plenty of friends with then that I have driven over the years and don't remember them driving quite like that. I understand the low speed confidence which is part if the reason I wanted my own!

I kept my original OEM JKUR tires at 37 psi for a better ride. Suggest you chalk test some different psi's to find a better ride and make sure the tire is riding with the full thread path on the road.

41 is a little harsh. Maybe 36. Also the toe might be off on the front end alignment. Sometimes alignments are not perfect from the factory. Or even could be knocked out of alignment a little from a transport truck.

Probably this. I know the first thing I noticed when I got rid of the Charger for the Jeep was that I needed to "drive" it the whole time I'm moving. You'll get used to it pretty quickly if that's the case.

This. If you still have the OEM tire size on the Jeep then the PSI for normal driving should be as it's listed on your doorjam. Mine says 35 PSI. Do not go by the maximum on the tire.

New vehicles are notorious for being out of alignment due to being strapped down on the truck or rail car. I do not believe I have had a new car or truck in the last 38 years that did not need an alignment. As said above your air pressure is a little on the high side but if it is not driving right to you take it back and have it serviced. The wheel sensors on my Jeep were malfunctioning and caused a condition similar to what you describe.

I have a 2014 rubicon. drop the psi to 32psi and be happy. Get a procal and you can lower the threshold the warning light comes on. I have mine set so even at 26psi they do not come on. Ride and handle much better at 26-32psi and I did not notice any mpg difference between those pressures and 50psi like my dealer had them at.
