Yea I’ve had the same issue with the Mopar Filters. I’m running K&N right now with no clatter but I’m going to try the Wix and see if the anti-drain back valve works. The Wix filter is a hell of a lot cheaper.
Someone here posted that the Mopar filter is made by Wix. Whats Unusual is that Wix uses a silicone anti- drain back similar to Motorcraft, Mopar uses rubber. I’ll post my findings using the Wix filter with my next oil change.

Default Use The Right Filter !!!!!!!!!!!

According to Mopar tech web, using a larger(capacity) may cause dry start as it changes the crank case pressure(lower) causing dry start. Consult your dealer for information regarding this situation in all chrysler products.

the one time i couldnt get to my dealer in time to buy one, i decidied i would be safe and get a MOBILE 1 filter, i figured for $10 it wouldnt be any worse than the MOPAR. I was wrong! With the MOBIL 1 filter i had engine clatter on start up. never happened with the MOPAR filter.

with the MOBIL 1 it sounded exactly like the first time you start the engine after an oil change where the filter is dry. this will wreak havoc on your engine if it happenes every time you start your engine. think about it.

i was pissed and after 1000 miles i had to change my oil again this time back with a MOPAR filter. its designed for that engine. not like MOBIL 1 that carries over designs from others.

do yourself a favor and stick with MOPAR! especially since Chrysler is looking out for you anyway and has WIX filters...
I believe you are a bit incorrect here, First off the Mopar oil filter for the 07/08 Jk, Mopar part number 5231090 is not made by Wix, but rather Purolator. As far as saying that "i was pissed and after 1000 miles i had to change my oil again this time back with a MOPAR filter. its designed for that engine. not like MOBIL 1 that carries over designs from others", is also a bit misleading, because the mopar filt that you speak of is also for Mopar vehicles with a 2.2L, 2.5L, 3.3L, 3.9L, 5.2L, and 5.9L engines, in addition to the JK's 3.8L, rather than "it is designed for that engine".
Don't get me wrong. Mopar stocks a very good filter. Wix is also a good replacement filter and has been around for quite some time, however Wix like most other companies produce bith high and low end filters.
Mobil 1 filter and K&N filters are both made by Champian Labs, and are pretty much the same filter. IMO are both pretty good filters. There have been some posts, that the Mobil 1 anti-drain valve has possibly faild in some instances, allowing the oil to drain out of the filter, causing dry starts. I've used both Mobil 1 and K&N filters in the past, and have never experienced this.
The fact that you say Chrysler is looking out for us is rather amusing.

Not sure of the difference, but obviously shortcuts were made to get the cost down and better margins on the cheaper Napa filter. I have used the Napa Gold's for years on my Tacoma 150k miles, and now my Jeep. No issues, and I've always gone 5-6k between changes, with synthetic.
CARQUEST filters are also Wix filters. The last three numbers stay the same be it Wix, Napa, or CARQUEST.

Wix: 51348
NAPA: 1348
CARQUEST: 85348

Well here's my 2 cent on the oil issue. I go with Moblie 1 10w-20 and mopar oil filter. I go with this because 1 Mobil 1 is easy to get anywhere, heck even Target and K-Mart sell it. Its good oil and it is SAE, API and all that certified. I go with Mopar filters because they again are good decent filters and are very easy to come by. I get mine directly from the dealer and usually buy 3 or 4 at a time. Believe it or not my local dealer is cheaper on the oil filters than Auto Zone or Advanced auto.

Also another note I did try Amsoil 10W-20XL recently and changed it out for Mobil 1 within 2 days after because I was getting what I think was valve train noise. I was getting a quiet but noticeable ticking that I knew wasn't there before and this wasn't just at start-up. When I went back to Mobil 1 the ticking went away.
