Default MPG got better

I filled 08 unlimited sahara up yesterday and drove to work and home as usual with no change at all in MPG. today i got to work and once again my MPG is at 16.4 which it has been for as long as i can remember and i havent reset the MPG counter in a year. Today before i left work i remebered reading on here somewhere that someone got better MPG with the OD off so i decided to try it and see what happens but was expecting a drop in MPG right away. anyways i turned the OD off before leaving work and drove home which is 33 miles with about 22 miles highway. before i hit the highway which is about 7 miles from work it had already climbed to 16.6MPG and by the time i got home it was at 16.8MPG. Once on the highway i drove at my usual 65-72MPH. not sure what my gears are but they are stock and my RPM sits at 2000 at 73mph with the OD on and when i was driving home at 70mph today with the OD off the RPM were around 2500

I will guess it was the non-highway O/D off portion that netted better mpg.

You may have seen even better gains if you had O/D on for the highway portion.

Try that combination.

Keep in mind, one trip isn't really a valid test. Keep the new technique for at least a few tanks.

well i had to do more driving tonight so i tried the OD off on the highway and sure enough it went back to 16.5MPG 25 miles later. there is a lot of up hill and down hill on the highways here so with the OD off i didnt have to keep my foot in it all the time. also when i drove home from work its 7 miles to the highway which is a long back road and the speed limit is 55mph which i also kept the OD off for as well. the only part of my drive home that is below 55 is the last 3 miles from the highway to my house. when i left tonight the jeep was at 16.7mpg when i hit the highway and down to 16.5mpg before i hit 5 miles but i kept it on till i came back home. i turned it back on when i came back and sure enough it made it back to 16.8mpg again. gonna keep it off all day tomorrow and see if i can get it up to 17mpg.
