maybe it's a myth...I don't think insurance covers rock dings in Alaska.....as long as it doesn't impede your line of site...I'll live with my cracks and dings until something is invented to keep rocks from my windshield. I say don't worry about it.

I had mine replaced by Safelight last month. Mine was busted by a rock on my return trip from Yellowstone NP and it shattered the lower right passenger corner through both inner and outer laminations. They will repair any crack under 8 inches in length (outside glass lamination damage only) before they will replace it. There are about five states (FL, KY, MA, SC, and Arizona) that are required by law to waive liability as log as you carry comprehensive insurance on your vehicle. Since Florida was one of them, I was lucky. They replaced my 2011 windshield with an OEM glass with the jeep trademark logo and little Jeep in the passenger corner. I believe my parts and labor was less than $400.

I don't have comprehensive and the ins. system here is a little messed up. I'm not sure but I think it would cost me the $200 to add it for a year.

The crack starts at the bottom of the windshield around the mid-wiper point on the driver's side and after about an inch and a half it pulls a right angle toward the window edge. I know that in certain provinces it will fail safety inspection "if the driver's wiper blade touches the crack"... I plan on moving within the next year so it is a minor concern there... also, I'm in "god's country" where it snows for about seven months a year so it won't be much longer before I have to be concerned about frost.

$200 isn't too bad. On my first vehicle it was around $600 (antenna built into the windshield).
