Is my worry justified
I put about 45,000 on my '07 engine and it ran perfectly until I hydrolocked it. You'd be surprised how cheap the hemi conversion places sell left over engines. I had a 2010 engine put in after the hydrolocking tho.
ok so i am panicing!! every once in a wile when on the forum i will find a thread about the 08/07 engines. Whether it be their over consumption of oil, mis constructed parts, or even weather related rattles. and it gets me worried!!
I have an 07 jk with 42 000 miles on the clock, so far they have been trouble free (touch wood) - although i have only been responsible for a about 5k of those miles.
I am starting to debate selling the jk, not for a new one either - maybe an fj (i could deal with the hideous looks ....i think) or an old 4runner.
i understand that i would be loosing ALLOT of off road performance, but the fact of the matter is i cannot afford to be replacing engines and other key components.
i am a student and was lucky enough to inherit an lr3 from my parents, i promptly traded it for a jk as i thought i would not be able to afford to maintain a land rover; but it seems i find myself in the same position again!!

Are we there yet??? NO... leaving the dealer lot with my questionable FJ Toyota Quality,,, Just as I leave the lot and a 1/4 mile up the road when the FJ gets into third gear,, BAM,, Tranny locks up again. They flat bed it back to their lot. Basically I told them I had enough,, give me my blue book value and let me walk. IT took another 5 hours after dealing with the owner of the dealership, and I got what I deserved.
Toyota makes nothing but crap,, I was a Toyota Customer as well as my family members for a very long time, just got tired of the rust bucket / body bulging/ brake isssues / accerlation issues / bad ball joints / crappy ifs systems ----> garbage vehicles. Toyota has lost the edge in the Auto Market. They can not stay off the news channels without having some sort of re-call.
Toyota of yester year is gone. Look how many rust bucket chasis skeletons they have way in the back of their service bays from all their not so old pickups and suv's " Dont deleive me,,, check for yourself,,, very sad" and now the 2007 FJ's have the same issue with their chasis rusting out,,, very sad... I do not undertsand why Toyota keeps buying crappy steel for their chasis,, you think they would have learned with their old pickups on their buy back program.
I had my Jeep for a year now with no issues. THe purchase was a pleasure , no hagaling and very easy to do busisness with. And the service / parts dept is more friendly and productive on how they do busisness.
One word best desribes Toyota == CRAP Do what your heart desires , but their is nothing like working on a Jeep , with easy maintenance and solid axles.
If there is one thing that I could do,,, I wish I would have bought a Jeep earlier,,, I love my Jeep,, would not give it up for the world. As far as the little quirks,, fix it your self, get a service manual , tools, and repair and service your Jeep yourself, it is the most re-warding thing.
If you can read all the post and threads on this and many other forums , you can repair almost anything yolur self with the right tools, it will not leave you stranded if you do all the proper maintenance , and like a doctor always keep an eye and ear for telltale signs that something is not normal, this can prevent a small repair going into a major repair.
MY 2 cents

I agree. If it was falling apart I'd say go ahead and get rid of it. But if it's running well, keep it.
2007 X bought in July of 2007 with no major problems to speak of. I have no noticable oil consumption between changes either. I think major oil consumption would be a tell tale sign of future engine woes, keep an eye on that at every oil change and in between.
A guy in my club calls the JK a 80,000 mile time bomb. LOL!!! And his thougth process held true for one of our club members who just hit 80K and his engine died.....but he beat the hell out of his Jeep so probably not a good example!
think of it this way, going with the 80K time bomb...your only halfway there!
