The mysterious clunk when getting on and letting go of the gas.
Alright, so I’ve had this clunk for a few months now and can’t quite fix it. It is a rather violent clunk/clicking/snapping sound that is very obvious when abruptly getting on the gas and also letting off of it. The sound can be avoided if I very gently get on the gas or let off it. It also occurs at parking lot speeds where sometimes it’ll clunk multiple times and it will feel like the Jeep is lurching forward. It sounds like it’s coming from the front end but I just can’t pinpoint where. It sounds like it’s coming from the passenger side of the front end but I can’t be sure. I have 90k on the odometer.
Things I’ve tried: Tightening control arm bolts, inspected transmission mount (looked good and bolts were tight), and just recently replaced the ball joints.
What am I missing? This is a pretty scary clunk/snapping sound so it must be something big that I am just overlooking. The only other thing I can think of would be the engine mounts but I read somewhere on here that our engine mounts are usually pretty study and hold up a long time.
Not sure where to go next. Any help is appreciated.
