Default napa 5w-30w full synthetic oil

anybody use napa 5w-30w full synthetic in their 3.6 pentastar? i know it is made by valvoline. you can get on sale for half the price of mobile-1 or even valvoline name brand full synthetic. it would save me a lot of money if it works because i will be changing my oil about every four weeks at the rate i drive. also i been having my 12' for three weeks now, have a little over 3,000 miles on it, runs like a top no ticking so far.

Hi all

I run Valvoline on all my vehicles for the past 30+ years. Its as good as any out there. Given the recent concern about the ticking in the one side of engine, might a 10w30w be a better choice.

No. In fact, there was a post on here that the dealer added 10/30 instead of 5/30 and ticked with 10/30 and not with 5/30. Oil weight is not the cause of the head failure.

Honestly it doesn't matter what you run as long as you keep it changed as required. Synthetic or non synthetic is personal preference. Ive ran everything from walmart to amsoil and most people who tell you any different don't really have proof to back it up. My 2 cents

What does your oil cap have written on it? Your the first I've seen with a 5w20 requirement.

The first number in the oil weight is it molecular size number and these days if you go with a 10 over a 5 you are most likely going to ruin your engine. The oil passages are designed to very tight tolerances as well as crank clearences. However you can run a 5w-50 if you choose and that would be ok, but probably not a real good idea in a cold climate.

I've run that and liked it. Haven't had any problems. I am partial to royal purple oil though
