Default Need Help! Code P0440 - General Evap System Failure

I have already replaced the gas cap because I kept getting the "gascap" message. It makes a weird nose in the rear of the vehicle when I start it in the morning. Something I haven't heard until recently. Any ideas on what it is and how to fix it. I don't want to have to take it to the shop. Thanks

there is a white gasket/washer on the canister side. if u relocated or disturbed it recently i would start there. look for small cracks in the rubber hoses also.. good luck.

The only thing I have done recently was put a trailer wiring harness where my dog ate it off and put on a steering stabilizer. I looked at the hoses and they seem good. I only have 46,000 miles on it.

well a general evap failure could be a couple things. at least its not a small leak.. those can be hard to find.. anyway u can simply check all the hoses and connections. make sure nothing is loose or has a slight rust color to it which would indicate a leak..
u might have a bad leak detection pump which is on the canister side, and has the electrical plug. if u decide u want to repl that get the white gasket also because 9 times out of 10 it gets destroyed when relocating evap, or removing the pump..
at least its not a leak code. IMO chances are its the pump..
anyone else have input????

did u just try and clear the code and see if it returns???

I just cleared this code today and haven't driven it since. Will wait until it pops up again and go from there. It is still making the noise when you start it though. Can someone put a picture up of what the canister looks like and where it is exactly located. Want to make for sure I am looking at the right part. Thanks

The evap canister is underneath the Jeep on driver side by the rear driveshaft. Its mounted to the frame. The pump is on the canister and has electrical plug. I believe Its on the back side of the canister.

I did not see a canister but there is a black box with electrical plugs coming out of it. One part has a small clip that if you undo it the plug swivels. Is that is. It is on the drivers side of the driveshaft in the rear. Just want to make for sure I am fixing the right thing. Any pics would be great also. Thanks
