Default Need help removing the engine splash shield

I wanted to remove the splash shield but I could not get the plastic fasteners off. The phillips head center section of the fasteners just spin freely in both directions. Any tricks to getting them off? I assume once the center section is removed the rest of the plastic rivit pops out.

I had a couple like that. Try using a thin flat screwdriver under the lip to give it some resistence or try to put some resistence on the screw itself.

Yeah I was, but they still weren't cooperating. They are just plastic rivets and the center section is the expander, correct? If need be I'll just yank them down, I just wasn't sure what I was dealing with.

If you have no intentions of putting it back on, or if you don't mind buying new ones when you do put it back on, drill them out. I had a couple of those that I couldn't unscrew when I put on my bumper, they'll come right out with the drill. Should have just done that to all of them, but of course I skipped the spinning one and came back to it at the end and just decided f it.

I use a hammer to pry them off. I can still reuse them, I just push them back in.

Yeah it may come to that. I'll give it another try before it gets to that point. I took off the silver bumper cover that comes on the Saharas and a screw fell behind the bumper and is rattling around.
