Question New Starter Query!

I have to replace the starter on my 2013 JK Rubicon Unlimited 3.6 Auto. The planetary gear inside the starter has disintegrated!
Are there any variations in starter design that I should be aware of, or can I buy an aftermarket unit listed for 'Jeep Wrangler 3.6L 2012-2016'?

I don't know the answer to your question. My starter in my 2012 failed last January. In my case, the gear did not throw out and retract properly. The dealer replace mine under the lifetime warranty.

A starter is a starter is a starter. The design has remained the same forever. They just keep getting smaller

When mine went out (the gear wouldn't disengage after the Jeep started), I got one from autozone, they were the only ones in my area that had one in stock. It is a reman, and is a touch noisier than the original, but it is still working like a champ 2 years later.

I got a AC delco professional new for under $100. Seems to be working just fine for me.

Default Clarification

I have the starter the issue is it has an alignment pin and the old alignment pin is stuck in the engine side so the big question is has anyone had this issue and how did the solve it. Going to try the vise grip approach but was wonder if there is some other standard approach
Many thanks
