Default Newbie Question/Trouble

So I was off-roading today for the first time. I went up a fairly steep incline in 4lo and at the top after stopping when I pressed the gas I got nothing, the jeep did nothing but rev the engine. Put it in N and then back in drive (still in 4 lo) and still nothing. Shifted into 4hi (auto) and was able to finish the trail. Once on slat ground was able to shift into 4lo and my jeep responded when I pressed on the gas. What caused this?

It may not have been fully locked into low range and slipped into neutral when you stopped.

i had been in 4lo for a little while. No hard wheeling just intermediate trails. So nothing to worry about then?

Thanks for the quick replies. I will try it out again and ride by the stealership next week. I feel more comfortable though.
