Default Noisy top quick fix

Like many JK owners, my 2007's top whistles at lower speeds and has gotten very loud at interstate speeds. The top assembly, as everyone knows, is not the best design but I tried something over the holidays after looking at the top assembly. Like many convertible assemblies with no mechanical point adjustments, as the weatherstrip becomes older (crushed), it loses its ability to block wind and becomes noisier. Since there is no adjustment points in the top or latch assembly, I simply took 3/8 vacuum line and cut 2 pieces 1 5/8 inches long, sliced them down the middle and wrapped them around the latch catch. This took about 3 minutes with about $1.00 in material and it worked out great. This quick fix simply allows the top to fit much tighter in the closed position therefore reducing noise. I did this after I had initially traveled about 2 hours at 75 - 80 mph on the interstate. The return trip after the install was like the top had new weatherstrip installed. There was a noticeable decrease in whistling at low speed and a drastic reduction in overall noise at interstate speeds (75-85 mph). I also did it on my nephew's 2009 Jk and he said it was much quieter on his ride home on the interstate. I hope the attached photos come out so everyone can see how easy it is to do. Hope this helps everyone with quieter trips.

I'm gonna try it but i think my wind noise is coming from say above the driver mirror on the side of the soft top right before the header / windshield area

Gonna have to agree here. My problem is a bowing of the center up just enough to create a ton of wind noise.

There is a updated part with a steel reinforced header panel from Jeep. I got mine replaced under warranty. I want to say it'd be about $80-$100 from Jeep. MUCH nicer part..

Default A side note;

On my original interstate trip, I pulled down on the center section in an effort to see where the noise was coming from and the wind noise was greatly reduced. After I looked at the header panel and saw no solution there besides replacement, I got the idea of moving the latches for a tighter fit. Since they have no adjustment, I came up with adding the vacuum line to make up for the lack of adjustment which did the trick. I will also look at the new header panel but the vacuum line is a real quick and easy improvement until something better comes along.

Sure is a lot of trouble to go to when there's a TSB out on it. Unless you're out of warranty, they'll fix it for free. Like goody said, it would be a minimal expense even if out of warranty. At least then you'd have the right stuff on it.

That's interesting. I spent several hours on the freeways yesterday and the day before and noticed that my Jeep is much louder than it was earlier. I'll be calling my dealer to check the TSB and maybe doing this mod also. Thanks!
