Is this normal??

You're right. With an engine that had jacked up heads, aluminum debris in the cooling system, ps pulley issues, and now cracked oil filter housings.

LOL!

Dude really, just enjoy your jeep. No need to act like a jack wagon.

I admit it. I acted like a "jack wagon". I am just passionate in my disappointment of the power level of that motor and sometimes my strong feelings about it gets to me. I shall endeavor to reign them in.

A small, vocal minority of 3.8 owners have oil consumption issues.
20+ years in production the 3.3-3.8 family is a well respected engine.

OP, the first thing to do is change your PCV valve. See if that helps.
fair enough then! they are a very vocal group hehe

I wouldn't go so far as to call you a 'jack wagon' (whatever that is) but the sad truth is yes, it is an underpowered engine for this size jeep. That said, very few owners can afford to drop a hemi or LS engine in to fix that problem. So, the vast majority just cope with it by adding lower gearing and just living with it. Yeah, my little 3.8 certainly won't beat your LS in a drag race, but I still have 20,000 to put elsewhere. If you can afford it, go for it. By the way, what is a 'jack wagon' anyway (I'm an old guy and not very computer saavy).

I am uncertain what a "jack wagon" is but at the same time i am not interested in starting an argument or making one worse so it is just better to agree and move on, besides, the gentleman that called me that was just basically asking me to tone it down a bit so i conceded and lets face it, i have been called alot worse.

I tried the lower gearing and the problem is u either make the low end more powerful or u get passing gear but whatever u choose, u sacrafice the other. With stock tires , 2.5 lift and 5.13 gears i got single digit gas milage on my 20+ hour trip to moab at 75 mph (the speed limit) and that motor was singing like a weedeater. That is plain unacceptable.

I guess i lucked out on my LS conversion. The Motech kit was about 5500.00 and the used 5.3 and 6L80 was 4500.00 and im doing the labor install myself along with other mods all at once so not too bad. Just a long time to wait for all the mods to happen at same time with powdercoating and shipping delays. I waited until the jeep was paid for and just saved the money towards the engine mods.
