Angry NSG370 / 6 speed stripped at dealers

Ok Tranny is stripped and out at the dealers "looking" for noise that has been bugging the hell out of me for the last 6 months. its been in 5 times now.

Should the 6th gear have any float or wobble on the main shaft ? as i was called in to see that there was no damage and they couldnt see any thing :(

the gear has 1-2mm float or wobble on the shaft it is clearly audible, this is not rotational wobble but up and down, like the gear is loose on the shaft/bearing.

the gears also move with different amount of ease on the shaft.

is this normal?

Thanks in advance.

No my jeep had a similar problem tho but worse symptoms it had at least .5" of play in every gear and yes mine felt as though the gears were loose and while shifting it would grind. I took it to the dealer and they replaced my whole shifter assembly/ linkage there was nothing wrong with the tranny itself just something came loose and broke in between the stick and trans and now my jeeps like brand new again!

sorry its not play in the linkage, the gearbox is out, the gears have been removed from the gearbox, there is play with the 6th "cog" on the gearbox input shaft it rattles.

May be sized for expansion. Also, oil is going to provide a damper...

non of the other "cogs" do this, also the "stiffness" of rotation of the different gears is not consistent, some spin freely some less so.

Remember i do have issues with this box, its noisy under load and has a constant ticking. it is worse in 6th with 5th and 4th less so

i think a wobbly 6th is the culprit, i just hope they cover it under the warranty :(
