Default Oil change problem.. Help!!!

I went to change my oil and it only dumped out a quart and 2/3. It's the second time this had happened and I don't think it's normal. I put in 5 quarts of 5w-20 synthetic like it says and all I get after 4k miles or the "change oil" light comes on is a quart and 2/3.. And I double checked and it says "change oil" not "check oil". Does anyone else have this issue or is my jeep just sh***ing the bed. It's an 09 X 2dr with a manual trans. I'm at 29,097 miles. Please help guys. I don't wanna have to trade her in yet...

The dipstick says I'm in the safe zone. I haven't been able to check it as often because it's so cold outside that I run in the house but I usually do every 700 miles. I've checked it 3 times maybe in the last 4k. That's a lot of oil to burn though.. It should be blowing smoke like a diesel if it's burning through 3 1/3 quarts per change.

I would do this change like normal, make sure you're level is good then check oil level every time you top off the gas tank. You should then be able to see how quickly you're consuming oil. Also you really don't want to run the engine low on oil as you will experience greater wear.

Also since you have an '09 (like me) if you're the orig. owner you should have a lifetime warranty on the engine. I'd just keep quiet to the dealer about letting the oil level as low as you let it get since that may be improper maintenance.

If in fact you are consuming oil at a guessed rate (say 1 quart per 1000 miles) have the dealer run an oil consumption test. It may be possible to get an engine rebuild or possibly a new engine if necessary.

Above all remember to check your oil regularly not just when it tells you to "change oil".

All that being said my '09 2-door uses about 1/2 a quart every 4000 miles or so. Not sure if that is normal or not but it definitely doesn't burn through 4 quarts in 4000 miles.

Hey thanks for the info. Are there any mods done to yours? The dealership said they'll drop my warranty if I lift it or anything like that. That would be kind of a pain to get a new motor though.

Same problem here. I change my own oil. The first time ever I didn't check between when I bought it and I changed it. I only drained 2.5 qts and mine get 6 qts of napa 5w-30 I just checked my oil the other day...500 miles after I changed it...it was down 1.5 qts already :( good thing is...aev is based out of a town two hrs away from me. When they do hemi swaps they save the 3.8 v6 and completely rebuild it an fix it then sell em for less than $1000

I have done a few mods but if a dealer wishes to deny warranty under the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act they have to prove that the modified part or system caused the failure of the broken part(s) or system(s).

So basically if you lift your jeep then your air conditioning goes out they can't deny your warranty claim on your AC due to your jeep sitting higher. But if you lift your jeep and you break a drive shaft due to improper shaft angle then they can deny your claim.

Now that being said some dealerships are more mod friendly than others, but I'm not sure how lifting your jeep and experiencing excess oil consumption can be tied together, thus not voiding your warranty on your engine.

Now there are a lot of guys on this forum who are much more knowledgeable in this area than me and I'm sure if I've misstated anything here they will be kind enough to correct me.

Draining only 1 1/3 quarts of oil, and the dip stick reading in the safe zone, can't happen at the same time.

I had the oil burning problem when using mobil one, switched back to Dino oil and problem gone. Just checked my oil minutes ago, 1500 miles since last change and it's completely full!

What he said. Good place for oil to get sucked into an engine.
