On my slightly over 1yr old '08 Rubi Unlimted I switched to Mobil1 at 5k. I change at each 5k interval with Mobil1. I don't plan on sweating it if the change falls a bit over that 5k mileage. I am now at 20k on the odometer and the only difference I see on the dipstick is a SLIGHT drop from where it started at the beginning of the change. I hope this stays the norm, if my oil consump went to a quart every 1k I'd be worried.

If you are checking every morning, you think that 1/2 a qt could be what you wiped off the dip stick

I am losing more than a quart of mobil 1 in the 4000 mile range. I think mine is being burned up, no leaks I can find. Dealer says it is normal. So long as it doesn't get worse I guess I don't care. I am getting close to my 36k mile warranty being up. I hope there is nothing wrong cause I plan on driving this thing for a long long time.

Almost 32,000 miles- no consumption. I put 800 varied-speed highway miles on mine the day I bought it, it had a good break-in, Pennzoil dyno 10W30 every 3000 miles....

I bought my jk w/ 30K miles and it used about 1 quart every 3K miles. I switched to Castrol synthetic 5W30 and haven't used a drop in 3K miles.

Well the answers are pretty much what I expected......all over the place. So I guess there probably is no way of really knowing, as I'm sure a lot depends on the type of oil being used, as well as each individual engine's characteristics. And if not many will chime in with their results, then it probably would be pretty hard to get a good average. Guess we'll just have to see how this thread plays out.

PS...Years ago I had an old 65' Chevy van w/ straight 6. No matter what, it always blew out a quart of oil right away. So I kept adding a quart. Took me half a year to realize that after it blew out that quart it never used a drop after that for thousands of miles. Guess it just plain needed to run a quart low all the time.

My 07 uses 1/2 quart every 3000 miles with Castrol 5w20 dino oil. Is it ok to add the 1/2 quart before the oil change or wait until it needs a whole quart? I have been adding and checking not to go over the full line.

My buddy is a service writer at a dealer, I can't remember the exact numbers but he told me the amount of oil consumption that dc allows for the 3.8 is off the charts. He went on to tell me how the clearences inside the motors are very random and not consistant from one motor to another.

for the people who are losing oil, do you have any engine mods? i only noticed that i was losing oil after i installed a CAI. but there is no evidence of sepage / leaking / dripping / black exhaust tip or anyhting. i'm killing myself trying to figure out where the oil is going.
