Default Oil Drain Plug - Rubber Gasket Replacement

I have a 2017 JKU and the last time I changed the oil, the rubber o-ring gasket on the drain plug was torn to the point it needed to be replaced. I went to the parts store where I had to buy the whole drain plug including the rubber gasket. I thought that the dealership surely wasn't replacing the entire plug every time they encountered a torn gasket doing oil changes, so I called my local dealer to inquire about just buying the rubber gasket portion of the drain plug and they told me they replace the whole thing too. What a total waste!!! Anybody run across just the rubber gaskets to add to the drain plug when you get a tear in the gasket? Any other CHEAP alternatives? I'm not looking to change to some high dollar quick change plug or anything like that - just hoping to find replacement o-rings if possible. Appreciate any guidance anybody has. Thanks

First I heard of this happening.. I'd take the old drain plug to the auto parts store get in the O ring drawer and hope to find one that fits the plug.. Checked with the dealers, the O ring is not serviced. Good Luck and post up your results for others.

I changed the oil in my 2012 about 20 times. Same plug every time. Never an issue needing to replace the gasket. Maybe someone over tightened it?

I also have a 2011 JKU and it has a different plug where the rubber is made around the outside of the head of the plug. This one is fine, but the 2017 that I own, the drain plug has a groove under the head of the plug where the rubber gasket resides. It is not integrated into the bolt itself like the 2011 version, but can easily be pulled out of the groove and replaced if a suitable replacement could be found. That's why I can't believe that just the little rubber gasket isn't sold separately. Anybody else have any issues with the later model drain plug and rubber o-ring gasket?

Quadratec says this plug will fit all models Wrangler from 2007 to 2022. It's only five dollars ...

Yes, that is what the plug looks like from my 2011. This is what my 2017 plug looks like. Starting to think that PO replaced it with this one for whatever reason. You can see the tear in the rubber gasket in the image. Going to switch back to OEM. Thanks for the info and link.

I guess I didn't think that $25 for a Fumoto valve that has saved me years and years of pulling that drainplug to be too high dollar. Worth it just to save the heartache of dealing with this single gasket issue. To top it off, can drain the used oil right into a container without a single drip.
