Unhappy Oil Leak

Was wondering if anyone could help me out with this...my 08 Rubicon is leaking oil so I decided to have a quick look...the pan and filter are dry and when I tried to trace it back it seems to be coming from a hose that runs up behind the front drivers side shock...it is clipped to the fairing and when i ran my hand up along side of it I felt the top and it seems that the hose is not connected to anything it is capped off with a white cap which seems loose but cannot be pushed any further down...so any idea what this hose is for? and if this is not the source of my leak and other suggestions?

Thx in advance...

Not that i can tell...so that hose I am talking about is the breather hose? I can's seem to tell if the oil is truly coming out of that hose...I assume it is as the oil has stained right up along side the shock fairing and I can's seem to find any other locations where it might be coming from...if it is the breather hose what exactly does it do and why would oil come from it?

Thx Dubya

I can't help as far as what is causing the leak, but my first thought would be to take it in and use your warranty. (This always turns out to be a hassle, though. I know!)

Too much fluid will cause it to overflow out the breather tube. Mine started to do it when it got hot down here. If you only have oil in there (you haven’t gone through deep water which may have gotten into your axle), you will be OK.

Definitely the axle breather tube from what you say... If it keeps spitting out oil, take out the plug on the cover side of the differential and let any excess oil come out. The oil should sit level with the bottome of the fill hole when cold

My 08 did the same thing after a day of wheeling. We were driving down the road and a guy waved me over because I was leaking oil all over his windshield. There was oil all over the place and it was obvious that it was puking out of the breather hose. So much pressure built up in the front end that it blew out one of the axle seals. I took it in and they replaced both axle seals under warranty.
