Have you cleaned it all off and looked for the source as it continues to leak?

Yea I clean and wiped it dry. It seems to come from that cover right behind the oil pan.

Regardless, still can be the trans and factory fluid seems a bit darker. Let us know if you figure it out.

I've got the exact same leak and it's so frustrating.

I've done a bit of research here on the forum. The general consensus is that is it very rare that the rear main goes out on these engines.

Someone suggested that I check the valve cover gaskets as it may be dripping down the back of the engine and pooling in the flywheel cover.

My valve cover gaskets were in fact leaking.

It also looked like oil was coming from the oil pan gasket as well.

I changed both oil pan gaskets (upper and lower) and the valve cover gaskets yesterday. The valve cover gaskets and oil pan were indeed leaking
but, the leak is still there.I just have a smaller puddle now.
I even double checked that I had torqued everything to the correct spec. (following the correct pattern)

Even though people say that it's rare the rear main doesn't go out I still suspect it.

Timing cover could still be a problem, but I'll have to wait to see if oil builds up at the front of the engine again.

Did you change to 10W-30 by chance?

I'm asking because I switched to 10W-30 back in May. I'm wondering if the increase of oil pressure simply blew out all of the old seals. I just hit 100K so it wouldn't totally blow my mind if that's what happened.

I had fluid leaking in the same spot. I took it to the dealer suspecting it was the rear main seal but it ended being the timing chain cover that was leaking. They replaced it under my lifetime power train warranty. No more leak.

Default Similar Problem

I'm having a similar problem. I recently had to replace my steering gear because it was leaking and spewing fluid. I cleaned off all the fluid residue around the engine and as I was checking for leaks today I found this.

It looks like there is a leak between where the transmission connects to the housing. Looking a little higher up, I found this.

Fluid on the bottom of the transmission looks reddish so I'm thinking it is transmission fluid but that wouldn't explain all the crud leaking from the gasket above the oil pan. It is a manual transmission and I haven't been pushing it hard enough that it would overheat. Any suggestions before I bring it in?
