Default One key, manual locks - can I install remote start and use the kit for my spare keys?

I know there are lots of threads out there about how to get spares made when you've only got one key for your JK, but I haven't seen this solution considered yet?

I bought my '09 JK 3 days ago and was given only one key. I have manual everything, but somewhere down the line I was planning to add remote start. Since having 2 spares made is pricey, and I know the remote start kit I want comes with 2 keys, I thought I might just go ahead and install the remote start now and avoid having to pay for 4 extra keys to be made when I really only need 2.

So, can anyone confirm that the MOPAR remote start kit (that comes with 2 keys) will work with manual locks? And that I would be able to get the dealer to cut and program those 2 keys to match the one I have now to give me the 2 spares I'm looking for? Thanks for your help!

Or will I need to upgrade to power locks to get the MOPAR to work?

Just took my 12 in for a remote start install. They said i needed to give them both keys to program everything. Now i have power locks so i cant comment on that but im pretty sure both keys are needed. But if the dealer sold the jeep with one key you might have a legit argument to have them do it with no extra charges.

I installed my mopar remote start, and took it in to have them flash the computer and cut the 2 new key blanks. I had both of my original keys(power locks) and they only needed one to do it. Although I am not confident that the one they did not take back will work in the ignition any more (most likely doors only). Definitely give them all the remotes available when they program the ECM.

Ok so only one is needed but any that dont get programed might not work. Very good info. Might save people bs expenses when needing another key/keys and also contemplating a remote start.

So on a Wrangler that didn't come with power locks, is the harness still there? Then just add the components in the door and route wiring back into the body harness?

Getting key copies should not be expensive for Jeeps with manual everything (like mine) I bought a couple of blanks on ebay for a few bucks, got them cut at a regular hardware store and programmed them myself following the steps on the manual.

I did this for my 2010 and my current 2012 without issues. Maybe $15 total for two extra keys.

Wish I could do that but I've only got one key. Manual says you need 2 to program yourself.

Are you looking for extra keys, or a remote start. If you just want a remote start, get a Viper system with either a FLCAN or a DBALL and you won't need the second key.
