Ok so I drove all the way back home 2 hours and about 75 miles with the half quart and the light has not come back on.
75 miles and it was some heavy transmission shifting on the auto because of the hills. When the code first came on I looked up the fixes and then checked my fluid and my Trans was at full operating temperature with plenty of miles on it and j was only getting a reading of fluid to the 150 degree mark or half way on the stick. With the extra half quart it's right at the second dot where it should be.
Not sure if I was low or how that could have happened and not triggered something for over 3k miles.

Well then we may have to try this again tomorrow and see what happens. I'll do an abbreviated 350 mile trip rather than my full 1200 to Cabo until I'm confident this is gone.

That would sure be nice if that is all it was.

What do you guys think? I have 1/2 quart left of Trans fluid. Should I put it in before I leave later today? Or could another 1/2 quart overfill it? I feel if it was so low to throw a message like that 1/2 quart is probably not enough and a full quart could be perfect. If the check engine light comes up again I would be tempted to add the 1/2 quart then and continue onto possible doom. Lol
Yes I could read the dip stick but I've been trying to do that for 3k and it doesn't look like I've been getting good readings. Could be the user too. Lol

Dang it....I was looking back at my old ATF/filter change cuz I knew ronjenx had noted the proper procedure for checking that ATF level....and it's really frustrating since a lot of our old threads just got dumped a while back. Searching and such....they're just no longer there past a certain date. So much good information just thrown in the trash.
I'm not quite sure. I see what you're saying in general.....I'd also just be really leary of overfilling.

Yeah, that info would be useful. I need to check my trans fluid level and I have a hard time getting a good measurement looking at the stick. I keep scratching my head and asking myself, "is that the level or is that fluid that got scraped up further up onto the stick as I was pulling it up and out of the tube?"

@ronjenx , can you do us a favor and post the proper method of checking tranny fluid level. I looked for one of my threads today I know you posted it in and it had been dropped due to the recent purge of some things. I couldn't locate it at all.

Only thing I found when looking into it was that engine should be running. Then cycle to every position on shifter and let set for 1 second at each position. After done doing that leave it in park, while engine still running and check level at corresponding trans temp.
Hopefully @ronjenx checks in. Does any of that sound familiar?

Sounds kinda of right. Seems I do recall Park or Neutral, and with engine running, but couldn't remember if checking cold or warmed up was better or if it mattered.
