I have just purchased my new 2013 Jk. The issue is I am thinking about taking all the hinges off and painting them black. The body color is commando green so I think it will look pretty good for a quick start to separate myself from the rest. Only bad part is I noticed that the paint is applied after the hinges are on. If I take off the hinges will this crack the paint around them and will this cause rust under it. I do not want to cause rust this early in its life. Trying to think of the future
For once.

once you've broke the factory paint seal, go ahead and paint behind the hinges on the door to prevent rust.

Ok awesome. I'll just have to get the factory paint pen then? Or maybe the can and tape it off. Ty for your advise and wisdom.

Since it won't be visible with the hinges on, I'd tape around the bare area and hit it with some rustoleum, rust x, etc.

I did this on my 07, taped it off and hit it with rustolium can. Then used rustolium budliner on hinge. They turned out great.

If you do it ( as a painter I am) I would recommend taping and shooting it with an etching primer then your choice of color. The bond will be stinger and the millage of the paint will be thicker to protect from the elements. Used many a time on plumbing applications with natural condensation. Customer wanted the brass painted Crome. Ten years later and still no erosion. Just my 2 ¢
