Unhappy Panic alarm

I have a Sahara with the auto locks, and when I use the key to manually unlock the door instead of the FOB, the panic alarm goes off when I open the door??? Is this a normal thing ( this is my first Jeep!) and can it be set some how???

interesting......my wife's 2002 liberty does the same thing. it is intermittent. you never know when you unlock with the key if the alarm will sound or not. well, you can tell before you open the door because the red light on the dash will continue to flash if the alarm is going to sound, and it goes out if the alarm is disarmed......but if the light is flashing, there is nothing you can do to make it go out, no matter how many times you lock/unlock.

my 2005 grand cherokee's alarm never sounds when i use the key. the light always goes out.

EDIT: i would like to add that the liberty has an aftermarket remote start and the cherokee does not have any remote start.

when you lock the door using the fob, it arms an alarm.

when you use the fob to unlock, it disarms the alarm.

if you use the key you are essentially breaking in and setting off the alarm.

just too bad they put a POS horn in the jeep and no one even hears it.
