Update -

I probably have 6k miles on the jeep since going to 5W30. I live in the Fort Worth area and this mileage includes a trip to Moab and back, and a trip to Ouray and back this last week. I have had zero issues since making this change until I was 1 hour from Amarillo on Saturday when all the sudden "ding". What a sinking feeling in my stomach. I reset the code and continued to Amarillo which is where we were staying the night. I immediately checked the oil level and it was low! I checked the oil level before leaving on this trip and it was normal, so now I'm wondering where the hell my oil went. I've noticed no leaks. At the very least the low oil kinda relieved my concern about the code, or at least gave some explanation for it.

I grabbed a couple quarts of oil from Autozone and topped it off. It took 1.5qts! Again, where did that much oil go? Leaving Amarillo on Saturday to head home, I got about 2hrs in and "ding". Reset the code and rolled on, that was it. Previously I had gotten to the point that I could throw this code 10 times or more on a 4hr drive it was so bad. Relatively speaking these two occurrences were nothing. The first one had logical explanation. The last 3.5hrs home I thought about the 2nd one. The only thing that dawned on me is that it really seems this cam codes became an issue not long after I switched to high-mileage oil (years ago). When I put the 5W30 in, I used regular synthetic. The oil I bought to top off with......was high-mileage oil. That is the ONLY thing I could think of, but it makes no sense to me why, or how high-mileage could factor into this. I'd think any additives in that would only be beneficial.

IDK, it's a big WTF for me. In Colorado I started getting a tick on the driver's side now. considering I had low oil I fully expect a bad rocker arm. Sigh. It's a love hate relationship with my jeep. I need to investigate my loss of oil this week. The heater has been cranked up to summer temps here in Texas so it will take some motivation to get to work.

I will still stand by the idea that oil is my particular issue. Having said that, I don't have all the answers. I'm in the boat paddling along with all you guys trying to figure things out along the way.

Here’s a quick update on my situation. I have not had any lights come on since I did the oil change with the Lucas. I did have to flush and fill the radiator but that was due to the 160k mile original radiator hose that decided to blow at what I would consider terrible timing. I did regear to 4.88s and that really helped out. Driving around town I feel no problems at all but when I drive at freeway speeds and start heading up a hill it feels as if it loses power on say 3 cylinders but with light lifting or changing my throttle position the power comes back on and pulls right up the hill. The delay in power would last a few seconds. I have not had the light come on during any of these episodes. I did track misfires and saw none with JScan. I’m going to change the CRANKSHAFT position sensor tomorrow just to rule that out. Still confused as to what that little glitch is.

Installed the new crankshaft sensor last night and drive to work. Driving to work is where I used to always get the hesitation, limp mode, every warning light displaying. I have not had any lights or codes since doing all the things I mentioned in earlier post. I did feel as though it ran smoother on the streets and highway. It still started to hesitate while trying to maintain 70mph in 5th going up a steep grade but I feel it’s the transmission itself not downshifting soon enough unless I manually downshift or smash the throttle. I’ve read a lot of people have had the same issue and they say the pedal commander helped out since it changes the throttle curve. I did have a few random misfires I saw on the JScan but did not have any after the new sensor.

After all I have done I am confident it’s fixed, I can now rely on it and enjoy it more.
