A-Pillar Leak - New Top Coming on Tuesday
Our 07 2-dr soft top is nearing the end of week 2 in the shop. Same problem as everyone else. Water leaks in around top of A-pillars on both sides and soaks the dash and seats. My dealer, who has been a Dodge franchise for many years and just inherited Jeep has done a diligent job of working on it. I took it in on Feb. 22. They let me have it back on Feb. 26 for the weekend and it went back in on Monday, March 1. They've replaced the header (second time this has been done - was replaced under TSB for wind noise last year), header seals, door seals, plastic surrounds, etc. They also adjusted the doors to the point I could barely get them to latch closed. Shop foreman said they've put on $750 worth of new parts. Guess what...still leaking. They called this morning and said Jeep "engineers" have instructed them to install another new header and a new soft top. Parts will be in next Tuesday. I asked if they were installing the same top that went on 07's originally, thinking that if they were going to replace all of that, they might as well put on the 2010 soft top with the cable system. He didn't know which top they were sending.
I'm thinking about offering them a proposistion - I'll sign an agreement not to turn in another leak claim if they'll install a hardtop in place of the soft top. I figure with $750 in parts already on it plus the cost of another new header and soft top, they have to be pretty close to the cost of a hard top. I'm banking on them realizing that the new top will probably leak as well and they'll be back to square 1. I figure they can return most of the new parts they've already installed by replacing my old parts and putting on a hard top.
Think I'll have any luck?

Go for it!
I can't believe the leak issues with these tops. My leak (2007 2 door) is just a drip that comes in on the driver and pass. doors over the door handles...nothing at all on the dash or anywhere else...I had the new header installed a while back too.
I'm putting the mopar rubber floor liner in when the weather warms a bit to eliminate the wet carpet syndrome, and I'll find my own solution to the leaks...or not!

The Hard top is going to leak just the same. The problem is not the top. It is the header seal and the crappy foam trying to fill the design flaw in the corner where the header funnelss water to the gap at the door/header intersection.
Have they adjusted the sport cage outward?
They are not going to do anything other than replace it with an 07 style top anyway. 10 top and hard top are not going to happen.

No mention of adjusting the sport cage. Didn't realize there was any adjustment in it. If the new top leaks I think they'll be open to anything that will get my Jeep out of their shop. They've been very up front about everything so far. They could easily have sent me home in the Jeep and let me discover that it's still leaking on my own. But they've told me that they've made several adjustments and added new parts and it's still leaking when they water test it. Either way, when I get it back, it's going straight home to be water tested by me. If it still leaks I'll take it right back and they can start over.
