Default Prove it

Is there a way to prove that a dealership actually installed a replacement part. I am getting my throw out bearing replaced tomorrow and just want to make sure they actually do it. I can ask to see the old part. Are there markings I can make to see if they actually did it.

Why wouldn't they replace it? If they document it that they did and give you a typed receipt that it was replaced then I wouldn't worry. They have to guarantee their work.

Well you are going there to get a problem fixed, their work is warranted, if it's not fixed you just take it back again. If it makes you feel better ask them how long they warranty their work.

I would ask to see the old parts. This will at least let the dealer know you are concerned about checking their work. That alone will help ensure they do the right thing. I have read other posts on here about people taking their jeeps to the dealer for oil changes, tire rotations, etc and have determined that the work was not actually done. These days you have to be your own advocate.

When we owned a local Motorcycle dealer (Sierra Motor Sports, or SMS), we always returned the old replaced parts to the customer for peace of mind for both parties. When I rarely have a shop work on my autos, I'm sure to request the old parts back for reference.

This is a great point too, letting them know you're on the ball and are being thorough about having complete finished work done. Raises the bar a bit.

Here is the story on the reason I asked the question. The jeep is a 2012 with less than 5000 miles. The throw out bearing has already been replaced with less than 1000 miles because of a whistling noise. It took them two days to complete the work. I was givin a rental car. The whistling noise went away. Now I have a grinding noise when the Jeep is in neutral. I took the Jeep in and they checked it out. They called me back and said they could not find anything or hear anything. I went to the dealership and grabbed the keys and started it up. I walked back to the service department and brought them out to hear the noise. They could now here it and said it was normal. I said hell no, you can hear it from 25 feet away. After going back and forth for awhile they agreed to replace the part. After about three weeks of waiting on the part to arrive I finally called the dealership to see if it was there. They said it was in and to bring it in at my convenience and it would take about an hour to replace.

Now why would the first time take two days and this time only an hour to replace. I asked if I needed to make and appointment and again they said just bring it in and the part would be replaced.

To me it sounds like the part was never ordered and they have no intention on replacing the part.

Sorry for the long post.

Sounds like you need to take it to another dealership to get what you want. Warranty should cover you.

ask to see the old parts and heck if it is grinding in neutral before they fix it, it should no longer be grinding in neutral so you shoud be able tell as soon as you start it.
