Wonder if there is Some kinda of sensor that would cause this, to protect the engine from getting water in it?

Reading this thread I just bought one of those K&N "Drycharger" air filter wraps that's supposed to keep water out of the air filter, I don't know if it works or not. I have a K&N intake on my 11' Rubi. Unl. I think I'll only put that "Drycharger" on for off road trips; day to day it's pretty dry here in West. L. A.

Edit: I just googled this and it seems to be a very common problem.
As I had never experienced the problem before and I'd very recently washed it, I was thinking that it might have been water-related, esp. since it happened when I came to a stop and not while moving (thinking that some standing water somewhere sloshed forward when I stopped).

If it happened to you dry, though, then I'd lean toward something else. I might as well take it out to the dealer (since they owe me a part anyway) and complain about it, just to get it on record.

I'm having the same problem. I made a post about it back in April with no help.
I have a 2012 JKUR I went through a river crossing and when I got out the other side I had a rough idle and no response from the gas pedal.
Restarted the jeep and everything was ok.
I crossed a even shallower puddle and the same thing napped. Rough idle and no power.

No water in the intake or on top of the engine. No check engine light or stores codes.

I googled this and found one other person with the same problem but again no answer.

I have an 08 jku and the same thing happened to me last weekend when I was driving through a mud puddle. Would like to know what caused this to happen

I read yours and I thought about that while I was pushing on the gas pedal and nothing was happening. I then glanced at the tach and watched it chug its way to zero.

Been thinking about this one for a bit. I'm wondering (since its the 2012's) if the new throttle body harness is getting wet. With the engine off/key off pull the electrical connector from the throttle body and see if there are any signs of corrosion or water penetration. After I swamped the Jeep I had electronic throttle control nightmares on end.

Default Gore Tex?

Interesting problem, I wonder if a gore-tex panel glued to the bottom of the box would prevent the water penetration but allow the unit to vent heat. Seems like a problematic design. With the history of jeeps I would expect them to be more attuned to what Jeeps are actually used for. Never thought driving in the rain would be called extreme use !!!!

is it really the '12s that this is happening to? I checked the electrical harnesses near the throttle body and it seems that they are so high up and close to the hood that there wasn't any splash in that area. I was with a buddy who recommended against disconnecting the harness because the factory can tell and get skeptical about your tinkering? so I left it connected.
I REALLY want to know what I have to do to solve this problem. I want to buy a snorkel, but I really don't think that was the cause of the stall and the last thing I want is a several hundred dollar snorkel on a vehicle that is more afraid of water than a cat.

that's original thinking and I like it. I opened the top fuse box cover of the black box that I believe to be the TIPM, just in front of the battery, and it was bone dry and clean inside, even in the wells.
