question about possible problems
Hey,
I was just wondering I have read over all the possible electrical issues and everything and I have a Black JK Sahara and so far the radio only turned off once then came back on within a second.
I don't know if I remember correctly when I first got the jeep I thought the power locks would automatically lock as you take off?
Do the taillights flicker when you press the unlock or lock? Mine used to when I pressed one of them but no longer do?
Also power steering sounds like it makes a noise the odd time not sure if it is power steering or what else it could be?
Last thing is when its gets cold I have a hard time shifting into second gear (its a 6spd). Don't know if anyone else has had that problem or not.
Anyways let me know,
Thanks
Chris

I have noticed a problem or harder shifting of my 6speed when it is colder. It says right in the manual to expect it so it doesn't bother me. After a few gear changes I adjust accordingly. I think it's normal. Even if you leave your vehicle to warm up the engine warms up but the tranny is still cold.
I haven't heard any noise from my power steering, but have heard it mentioned that some people are hearing a funny noise until it warms up too.

If your stick is hard to shift when cold, put your tranny in gear and your transfer case in neutral when warming up the engine and you'll warm up your tranny too. Makes for easier shifting. My XJ (stick) was like that, too.
i think all vehicles with a standard tranny is a little bit stiff when its cold. atleast my 06 Jetta TDI was along with my other 3 jeeps.
this is the first i have heard about power steering noises, i would get that checked out.

Hey,
I think the majority of questions have been answered. The only one is regarding the power locks. Whether or not they automatically lock when you take off after first getting in the jeep. I thought they did when I pulled away from the dealership but I am not 100% sure.
and how long does everyone usually let their jeep warm up before they begin to drive?
Thanks
Chris

Mine locked itself(and still does) when I got it from the dealership. There are ways to make it stop that behavior. I'm too lazy to look up the tread:sad: . I let mine warm up about as long as it takes to buckle my seat, plug in the ipod & get the shuffle started. The stiff tranny thing goes away quickest from spinning your tranny gears I used to just cruize slowly through my neighborhood in second. By the time I was at the main road it wasn't stiff shifting anymore. I figured better to be moving down the road practically idling than sitting in the driveway burning gas for nothing.

In the cold, Canadian mechanics usually say that whether you warm up the car or not fails to make a difference in engine life. I'm not sure, but I think I remember it has something to do with oil coating the shafts:
1. Wait until your temp gauge reads near normal. Then take off. Minimal wear and tear but dragged out over several minutes of idling.
2. Take off right away: vehicle warms up in a minute or two but bears significant wear in that minute.
Supposedly the end result is the same.
In the end, most people fail to warm up their vehicles in cold climates because sitting around for 10 minutes doing nothing is a bit of a luxury people can't afford (or don't want to). I try to wait about 5 minutes, or at least until I see the temp gauge needle start to climb. I figure it's warm enough to register by then, so it's good to go.
