Default Question about steering components

My tie-rods and draglink have some play in them now since this last weekends wheeling fun. What should I replace them with or should I stay with oem parts?

I bought the Currie Correctlync system for about $800. I've wheeled it three times since the install, greased it regularly and it's already loosened up considerably. Not impressed. Oh yeah, at GTD in Jaffrey, NH a guy got towed out of the woods with his driver's front tire and wheel missing. Turns out his Currie tie rod snapped in half right where the female threads end on that side. Wasn't a very difficult trail either. If I had it to do again I'd probably stay with stock.......at least they're cheap.

When you say loose what do you mean? Visible play when rocking the steering back and forth?

FWIW I find this setup to be over priced as well. I knew from the start when the whole thing rusted in a week from lack of paint, not to mention they don't seem to hold grease well.

I painted mine before I installed them. I knew that crappy black oxide wouldn't stand up to what New England dishes out for weather. Agreed on the grease thing, the seals suck. As far as loose........After three wheeling trips it went from tracking like a freight train on the road to being difficult to keep in the lane. The only thing we can find is visible movement in the tie rod ends. I have a Currie set up on my daughter's TJ and it's worked well for years but the JK stuff blows.

If you are talking about being able to rotate the tie rod and drag link, that in itself is not reason to replace.

If you have vertical play at each joint, then they need to be replaced, assuming the nut is tight at the joint.

I have the Currie rods. I like them a lot--I bent my stock drag link, something I seriously doubt I will do with these. They do rust quickly, so I've made a habit of hitting the threaded parts with a WD-40 spray on occasion. If I lived in an area that salted roads frequently, I might not be happy. Fortunately, we don't get that many snow days here in OK.

I'm noticing this too ever since installing the Currie. I'm getting some wobble type vibes in the steering when hitting bumps and the steering feels sloppier. My alignment is good had it done so I am wondering of I made a huge mistake purchasing this expensive tie rod and drag link set up.

I'm also wondering how big the actual ends are. They are surrounded by such big housings I don't think the actual ball joint at the end is very big..

I'm going to have my buddy look at it, but when my wife wiggles my steering wheel back and forth I can see the tie rods lifting a little bit, and after the last wheeling trip my steering wheel is off to the left a tiny bit. I also noticed when I was playing on some sand dunes while I was turning left it looked like my driver side wheel was moving left to right like it had play in the tie rod. I have heard people talk about moog tie rods and I have heard about the currie rods but didn't know if I should stay with OEM.

If they are shot then than is a HUGE disappoinment for $800. Thats a lot of money. Have not had a chance to do the steering test. Will do it with my mechanic on Monday..
