Question about towing
My 2007 4dr jk unlimited manual transmission has a 3500lbs towing capacity I have a tow package. I'm looking at a trailer that weighs 3499lbs now I'm 200lbs and the total gvw with everything my wife kids luggage and trailer is 400lbs more. I'm driving for 1 1/2 hrs no mountains 80km/hr. am I pushing it or can the jeep tolerate that extra 400 lbs or so?
Agreed 100% My camper pulls fine on the flatlands but I wouldn't even attempt it without those two things. Pulling the weight you are talking about without a brake controller (At least) would make me nervous. Not saying you can't do without it I just don't think I would.
My 2 cents - I bought a pop up camper - weight is 3500 lbs. Towed it about 60 miles on a highway at around 65 mph for most of the drive and then on town roads - 35 mph to 55 mph. Some up and down and hills.
I did this with the stock Rubicon tires when doing this.
It went okay but the length, about 19 feet, did get pushed around a bit with tractor trailers whizzed by.
Once I hit the hills, not mountains but hills, the whole trip coughed. I was in 4th running at 4000 RPM to keep up to speed. In town when running 35 mph and then a hill, it was a session of rowing the gears to keep up moving forward.
All this is why we looked at a tow vehicle for when we go camping. Just a bit too much for me.
So - long story to answer your question - I would say with the right expectations - going slowly and not planning a timed schedule, you should be just okay for a one time gig.
Enjoy and stay safe.

If you have no trailer brakes make sure you keep plenty of distance to the car in front of you. You don't want to put yourself in a situation where the tail can wag the dog. I successfully towed my toyhauler last week that was loaded to a total weight of about 5000 pounds. However, I have. 2012 with max tow and I use a brake controller with dual axle brakes as well as weigh dist hitch and friction sway control.
