Default Question on Rubi axle lock lights on dash

Test drove a 2009 Rubicon yesterday. Seemed to be a well maintained jeep overall.

What are the dash lights for the axle locks supposed to do when activated?

When I pressed the axle lock down the dash light continuously flashed. I presume this indicates locked. When I pressed the button up the dash light stopped flashing. I presume unlocked.

Just curious, are the axle lock dash lights supposed to flash on and off while activated or are they supposed to remain constantly on?

Also, pressing the axle lock button one time locks the rear (one dash light) and pressing it a second time locks the front (two flashing dash lights), right?

Thanks!

Actually in a rubi the axle lock when flashing, is trying to lock up and not locked. A solid axle lock light means they are locked.

Flashing means not locked. Solid means they are locked. The Jeep will ONLY lock while in 4lo. (I have an 08 rubicon) id be happy to answer any questions you might have about them if you PM me.

I was definately in 4 Lo. Hmmm.

And the front will NOT lock until the rear locks, right? The rear apparently was having difficulty locking.

I am glad I asked here before I made an offer on this particular jeep.

There are owners on this forum including myself that have a problem with the front locker light flashing but the locker did lock. My rear stays solid but the front will only remain flashing. I lifted the Jeep up and tested both front and rear lockers. Even with the front flashing my front locker did lock. I believe this issue can be caused by an electrical connection on the top of the differential. I need to clean it and see if it solves the light problem.

Did you move the Jeep at all after pushing the locker button?

Often takes a rotation or two of the wheels on mine to lock up.

This is it. You have to be moving for the lights to stop flashing.

I had the same issues this past weekend with my Rubi. I have an '07 and don't get out thst much to be able to lock my axles. This past weekend in the snow I "used" them. It took 15 or so seconds for rear to lock then front did almost immediately. As I was driving, the rear light then went from solid to blinking several times. It seems fickle as to when it was solid and blinking. I could tell when the front was locked from feeling in the steering wheel. Moght have to put some dialectic grease on connectors.

like said, you have to move alittle for it to lock. no light means not locked, flashing means its trying to lock or unlock, solid is locked.

I was moving forward in 4 LO and still no go. I drove forward maybe 20 or so yards. Is it necessary to drive some distance for the locker to engage? This would seem counter to what you need the locker for when you need it.
