Default Question for those that have built hoists

How far from the tailgate end is your cable mounted? I'm assembling a system right now and curious about a starting point to try and keep it level when lifting.

I built one this past summer, I've left the connection point movable as the CG of the hoist changes. When it's empty the CG is further forward and when it's hoisting the top (I don't store the top on the hoist but drop it onto a movable table) it's much closer to the back. Right now it's empty and is sitting about a foot and a half from the back hook. This is on a 2-door, btw.

Depends on 4-door or 2-door top; suggest as above - keep the point moveable.

I just built a shelf with eye hooks on it. The hardtop sits on it and I pull it to the ceiling of my garage with non ratcheting tie downs. My piece is 48"x69". Did it all for less than $35.00, too.

Thanks, I forgot to mention 4dr. I am making it adjustable, was just looking for a starting point.

I built mine so I could back under it and everything is centered. Then I collected more junk. Still works great - I just need to reach over and keep it from swinging back too fast when it clears the Jeep. Putting it down is the same thing - just need to push it out a little. Bottom line is you don't need to be exact.

definitely keep it movable but for a four door, its somewhere around 3/5-3/4 of the top toward the rear
