Default Radiator Drain

For the last couple weeks been trying to get thing ready to change out me radiator fluid. Got underneath to open the petcock and nothing. Looked this up for a replacement, because I'm about to grab that plastic with a pair of vise-grips. I'm I just suppose to turn counter clockwise and pull?

When you say "nothing" you mean there is no petcock there? Or you open it and nothing come out?

If nothing comes out, did you remove the radiator cap first?

Thank you for the response. I did open the cap (actually replaced with new one) when petcock was turned 90 degree counter clockwise. Thinking, by looking at the replacement piece, it should unscrew out? Thought it was like a ball screw type valve.

Pretty sure it unscrews, maybe not completely... Anyone done this yet??

My two-cents was just to be sure you had the cap off.

good luck, let us know your results.

How many miles, what year? Is it possible you have a bunch of 'junk' in your cooling system blocking the drain? When you had the cap off was it off while the drain was open?

those little plastic drain plugs are terrible! you could always pull off the lower radiator hose...would be much quicker and not risk breaking the plastic drain plug.

LOL, I see that now and yes I just didn't back off the drain plug for enough (1 full turn). I got only a gallon out by using the radiator drain plug, which took forever. I think next time, I'll remove the lower radiator hose and temporarily thermostat. It took forever to get that gallon back in without doing the thermostat removal.

Thanks agian
