Had a random ding on my 07-JK for two weeks. Next time it dinged it was accompanied by the check engine light. Had a P0302 Code - Cylinder #2 Misfire code. Hours later, a shake in the engine.

I swapped out the plugs and wires to no avail. Ended up being the coil pack!

I just started getting the random ding on my '09 JK. The interior light comes on when it dings, but no other warning lamp or indication.

Have the ding on my '08. On a couple of occasions, I happened to be looking at my gauges when the ding occurred. The ESP light flashed - almost imperceptibly. No way you could notice it if you heard the ding and quickly looked at the dash. It would be long gone. No codes have ever been thrown.

Don't know what might cause it. There's a lot on this forum about having the steering wheel centered after you have a lift. That's not it. Some say it's related to putting in a lift, but I'll bet several had the ding without the lift. I suspect it's a minor (but annoying) bug in the ESP software.

This ding is similar to the Hot Oil ding. I know - I burned up my first auto transmission (replace by warranty, thank you Chrysler). I haven't done the recall flash upgrade. Decided to take matters into my own hands and put in a transmission cooler and a Aeroforce gauge.

Hope someone finds a "cure for the ding". Maybe we could have Jeep ribbons made and do a 100 mile 4x4 trail ride to raise funds for the cure? Maybe not. Too much like other "cure for the <fill in the blank> "runs already being done - for good causes too.

I have noticed the same thing about a warning light flashing so fast you won't see it unless you happen to be looking directly at it.

Today, about 3 miles after a cold start, I heard the ding. I was looking at the cluster at the time, and just caught the electronic throttle control warning light just going out. It was that quick. I have just barely caught a couple different lights just going out on other occasions, too.
So, it seems it's not any one thing that will trigger the "mystery ding".

Make sure your oil level isn't low. I would get this occasionally when I first got my Jeep. I didn't know what it was because it would go on and off before I could see the light.

Checked my oil today, but it is good. Was talking to a friend of mine today who had a Ford Ranger which had the same problem... Random ding and interior lights would come on, but no warning lamps would come on. I guess the dealer had encountered the problem before and it was apparently some sort of electrical switch or sensor for the door. In the colder weather, the sensor would just start acting up. Maybe it's something similar for the Jeeps.

You know I noticed something interesting today when I was driving around... The "random ding" only came on when I was driving on really bumpy roads covered in snow and ice ruts. That was when I first noticed it the other day too, when the roads were really bumpy. You could hear the doors rattling and then the beep and interior light comes on. Came on about 4 times just driving around the crappy roads in town today. I think with my Jeep at least, it is just a problem with the door sensor. It is also currently -20 out, so that could be causing it to act up as well.

mrlobaloba, get your local dealer to update your ECU to resolve the mystery ding issue.
